[The transmission starts out as audio at first, a teenage girl's voice sounding annoyed.] -- back here! I told you already! We'll get out there and start exploring after I manage -- [A couple seconds of static, and then voice switches to video, pointing up at a cloudless sky.] -- this thing works!

Oh, wait, I think it's on! [The video swings around to point at a short-haired girl whose brow is furrowed.] Uh, hello? This thing is recording, right? Look, can anybody tell me what the heck is going on here? I wake up in a house I've never seen before, get shoved out the door by a woman I've never met before... And now apparently I'm supposed to take care of this weird little... purple guy! And he won't stop --

[A crash from off-screen, and the girl jumps.] Hey! What did I just say?! Ah, geez, I'll be right back! [Click.]

[Ken's just been bumming around New Bark, trying to figure out what the eff is going on and stopping every so often to pluck his Rattata off his shoulder and set the thing back on the ground, managing to get maybe five or six steps before it's scrambling back up to perch with a happy chatter.]

The crashing and shouting attracts his attention, though, and he follows the sounds to wherever they're coming from.]
