[The transmission starts out as audio at first, a teenage girl's voice sounding annoyed.] -- back here! I told you already! We'll get out there and start exploring after I manage -- [A couple seconds of static, and then voice switches to video, pointing up at a cloudless sky.] -- this thing works!

Oh, wait, I think it's on! [The video swings around to point at a short-haired girl whose brow is furrowed.] Uh, hello? This thing is recording, right? Look, can anybody tell me what the heck is going on here? I wake up in a house I've never seen before, get shoved out the door by a woman I've never met before... And now apparently I'm supposed to take care of this weird little... purple guy! And he won't stop --

[A crash from off-screen, and the girl jumps.] Hey! What did I just say?! Ah, geez, I'll be right back! [Click.]

Um, well... I like to think the reason we're here is to travel all around Johto and get the badges from the Gym Leaders? It's what you had to do in the games, after all.

Gym leaders, huh? I had one of these games once, but I never really got all that far...

Just think of them as the boss battles in any other game of your choice, and you'll have the perfect mind set to take them on.

Mm, exactly that! You need to set up a strong team along the way and just make use of type advantages, or overpower them completely.

Right... Type advantages? What's that mean? [...This may be why Chie never got all that far.]

It means taking advantage of how certain kinds of Pokemon are weak against other types. It's kind of like rock-paper-scissors, only there are fourteen or so options.

Wow, fourteen? How do you keep track? And how do I know what type this little guy is? [She glances down at her Tyrogue, who's restlessly throwing punches at the air.]

Ah, well-- The Pokédex built into your gear can tell you what type any specific Pokémon is... But, um... If I had to guess, that's probably a Fighting-type.

..."Fighting" is a type? I was thinking it would be more like fire or ice, y'know?

Fire and ice are amongst them! ... though I have to admit I've never actually encountered a fighting-type in the wild... You must be lucky!
