Bout 010 (Video/Action): Badges upon badges. (backdated to Tue. 6/14)

[The video opens in medias res, with a casual conversation going on in the Olivine Pokémon Center. It's not quite loud enough to hear any of the words, though. After a second or two, Chie orients the video on herself.]

Oh, hey, has anybody else noticed how the gym leaders are a little... weird? Me and my friends all challenged Jasmine today, so we could get the Surf TM and cross Route... 42, I think it was? And Jasmine gave us all the same lines from beginning to end. She was all like, "Properly tempered steel won't be made rusty by things like this!" And "You are a better trainer than me, in both skill and kindness." Like she was reading off a script or something!

But anyway, we all made it! I got Ecruteak's badge too, when we stopped there on Friday, so I'm up to four! [Chie shows off two badges to the camera.]

For anybody who's following our quest to rescue Souji-kun, we're leaving first thing tomorrow morning on the way back to Ecruteak. And from there, it's through Mahogany and on to the Ice Path! Just hold on, Souji-kun, we won't make you wait too much longer!

[ Rise breaks off abruptly, letting out a groan. ] That's right, I haven't practiced swings today--!

[and he laughs, a little incredulous.]

Better not let Yukimura hear that; but then again, knowing him, he probably already knows.

I had a Gym to beat, there's still daylight--

[ and she's already reaching for her bag, instinctively now. ]

Nothing like doing a few swings in the middle of a crowded pokemon center.

[ Rise, don't eye the ceiling like you're considering it. ]

[taking the time to grin, delighted]

They have a ladder at the back.

[ with a sigh, she liberates her racket, making an unerring line for the back. Practice is practice, after all, and she trusts her sense of balance. ]

[and he follows her amiably! goodness this is fun. while he's doing that, he fishes out his own racket as well, and begins loosening the gut.

a pause. hm.

he beckons his misdreavus to follow.]

I wonder how often people head up to the roof if there's an actual ladder set up here...

Wouldn't be surprised if it was just for maintenance, really. But isn't it more fun to think that someone foresaw this and set it up for our benefit?

"Oh, maybe someday someone's going to practice tennis on the roof"?

Exactly. You wouldn't want to get in the way of an otter and her tennis, after all.

You're the tennis buff here, not me.

And you're just the accomplice? [amusement, aaaaand-- he pulls up the ladder. giving a discreet glance behind him, he quietly folds it up, and starts moving it towards the back entrance of the pokemon center.]

Something like that. [ just as casually following him. ]

[there's a nurse who notices them! and starts walking towards them, 8-bit smile plastered all over her face when--

there's that five-tone chime of the healing machine going off, out of tune, and the nurse swivels, suddenly back in place and ready to offer pokeballs back to the nonexistent trainer at the counter. the misdreavus behind her makes cackling noises, and jams another button on the pokemon center machine. it makes a whirling noise, and a pokeball shoots out at high speeds, hitting a chansey in the head.

presumably, this doesn't end well, but Fuji only laughs, quickly sliding out with the ladder.]

[ Rise takes a minute to make an apologetic gesture at the whimpering Chansey - all the while struggling not to burst out laughing while simultaneously lamenting that this yet another Center she's inadvertently terrorized (by association) - and then she's darting out after Fuji. ]

Maybe it's a good thing I healed everyone before we did this.

Prepared as always. But I wouldn't worry about it, if I were you. You're just the accomplice. [a laugh, and he quickly sets the ladder against the side of the building.] Ladies first!

No looking up, mister.

[ mock-sternly, because Fuji really isn't the type to peek up skirts at all, but she's quick to scale the ladder and carefully maneuver herself from ladder to roof. ]

I solemnly swear that I shall do no such thing.

[the straightest face, though he does look away. there are some things in the world he really doesn't need to see. and when he feels her weight lift from the ladder, he starts climbing up himself, keeping an eye on the door down below every once in a while to check for pursuers.

judging from the amount of noise in the center, nobody will be checking on them anytime soon. he does, however, take up the ladder with him as he settles himself on the roof, just as a precaution.]

[ it takes a minute to get her balance, but after a minute, Rise seems well settled and eying the view with a look of interest. ] Wow... it's not the lighthouse, but the view's not bad at all.
