[The video opens in medias res, with a casual conversation going on in the Olivine Pokémon Center. It's not quite loud enough to hear any of the words, though. After a second or two, Chie orients the video on herself.]

Oh, hey, has anybody else noticed how the gym leaders are a little... weird? Me and my friends all challenged Jasmine today, so we could get the Surf TM and cross Route... 42, I think it was? And Jasmine gave us all the same lines from beginning to end. She was all like, "Properly tempered steel won't be made rusty by things like this!" And "You are a better trainer than me, in both skill and kindness." Like she was reading off a script or something!

But anyway, we all made it! I got Ecruteak's badge too, when we stopped there on Friday, so I'm up to four! [Chie shows off two badges to the camera.]

For anybody who's following our quest to rescue Souji-kun, we're leaving first thing tomorrow morning on the way back to Ecruteak. And from there, it's through Mahogany and on to the Ice Path! Just hold on, Souji-kun, we won't make you wait too much longer!

Okay, I'll admit... [He glances back at Jasmine and lowers his voice so only his companions can hear.] That was sort of strange. The other Gym Leaders didn't seem so... repetitive.

Yeah, but I've been thinking... What if we only noticed this time because we all fought her in a row? Every other time I've done a badge challenge, I was on my own.

I'm starting to think they're all trained.

By whoever brought us all here, do you suppose?

That's... pretty fuckin' weird, yeah. Guess it goes with the whole video games thing they've got going on though, you know?

Yeah, good point. I kinda forget about that stuff, 'cause the people here usually don't seem like they're on tracks, y'know? And my Pokémon have all got real personalities, definitely.

I dunno, I thought Jasmine was kinda cute.

Well, they are game NPCs. I doubt they know very many other lines.

Yeah, maybe. But they seem real most of the time! And then you get something like this, and start remembering how freaky Johto really is.

Yeah, I guess that's the generous way of looking at it. But you'd think she'd have time. How long does she just spend standing in that gym?
